Sequence of activities to help students learn to say what they have done in German during this academic year and express this in the form of self-penned school reports
Text in which Homer Simpson talks about what there is to do in Springfield and compares it to Shelbyville. The text is followed by a True / False exercise, a find-the-phrase exercise, a manipulation exercise and a writing task.
List of the months in German followed by images designed to provoke students into guessing the month from the weather / events they are looking at. Lots of possible correct answers = lots of guesses. If you've taught the weather you could invite students to justify their guesses.
Jumbled dialogue between, Santa, who has misplaced his reindeer, and an elf, who finds them in his garden. The dialogue can be reassembled in many different ways. You could model a dialogue first and them ask them to improvise something similar, before asking them to write up a plausible dialogue.
Open-ended activity in which students must (i) improvise a dialogue featuring all of the sentences on the sheet and (ii) write the dialogue up. Works well if you improvise a dialogue for the class to watch before asking them to do it.
A sequence of activities relating to travel and holidays: (i) a discussion and card-sort (ii) a text to read (iii) a 'Richtig/Falsch/Nicht im Text' exercise (iv) a summary exercise (v) a paired speaking activity and (vi) a writing task. Typos now removed!
Aimed at Year 13, a series of activities on the topic of human cloning. First there is a gap-fill activity linked to the song 'Klonen kann sich lohnen'. This is followed by a T / F / NiT activity relating to a news report. Students then have to read and sort 18 statements about human cloning into 'For' and 'Against' groups. They must then analyse and categorise the arguments into moral arguments, medical arguments etc. This is followed by a translation into German and an essay title.
Powerpoint which systematically builds up a table demonstrating the formation of the Dative after certain prepositions (an, auf , hinter etc). After the table has been built up, articles are removed randomly and students have to say what is missing.
Questions on Filmsprache in Das Leben der Anderen followed by (i) a manipulation exercise, in which students must adapt the questions to generate statements about technical aspects of the film and (ii) an essay title.
Toolkit featturing key structures for describing a room. It brings together the Nominative, the Accusative and prepositions with the Dative . It is followed by a multiple choice exercise practising these grammatical points.
This dialogue is an upgraded variation of something I originally wrote for Lernpunkt Deutsch. There is a dialogue featuring Superman at the doctor's, followed by True / False / Not in Text questions, a manipulation and extension activity, and a vocab deduction exercise.
This is a re-vamped version of a text I have uploaded elsewhere. It now has additional exercises. The text has been simplified slightly and is now followed by (i) a comprehension activity (ii) a find the phrase exercise (iii) grammar practice of TMP (iv) a manipulation exercise (v) a translation exercise (vi) a speaking activity and (vii) an essay
A sequence of speaking activities relating to the film 'Der Tunnel' including character identification, conflicts between key characters and character description.
Each slide of the powerpoint practises a different German sound / spelling pattern. Slide 1 acts as a homepage for the activity. Students pick an image. When you click on it, it hyperlinks to a phoneme for the class to practise. (This is similar to the one I made for beginners, but the vocab is appropriate to KS4.)
