A maths investigation based on 3D shape.. I used this with years 5 and 6. It is good for SATS practice as it gets them to explain their answer.

Here are 6 different tasks I made. They are reasoning problems all based on some of the old Nrich maths problems for more able children upper KS2- but all altered and with a Christmas theme. This is a fun activity that keeps the learning going until Christmas and my class are loving these. I may well make some more (if I have time!)

Some word problems all require division and some require another operation too as they are multi-step. All Christmas themed and answers provided. I will be using these with years 5 and 6 next month Merry Christmas

I made these tasks for my class to focus on now the SATS are over. They are loving them so far. They love working in groups and presenting to the class. It also creates a healthy bit of competition. Both group tasks involve working collaboratively, budgeting, research , recording information and preparing a presentation. We have been doing the class book 'Skellig' in English and Multiplication in Maths. I linked the 2 together so here are 4 different levels all with answers. Super- is 4 digit by 1 WoW! is 2 x 2 Fabulous is 4 digit x 2 Marvellous is just word problems that require 4 x 2

I used this for my mixed year 5/6 class to assess the first week of place value. I chop them up and stick in books- then the child will tick which statements they think they can do in the first column and I tick the second column. There is also a space for next steps. My class found it useful.
