Converting Fractions or Decimals into Percentages

Converting Fractions or Decimals into Percentages

(5)
This short lesson I use with KS2/KS3 students when looking at converting Fractions into Percentages or Decimals into Percentages. The lesson is accompanied with a Worksheet for students to answer in class or as a piece of homework. It demonstrates the style I use in class which is to work through examples in class with students pitching in ideas of how to answer the question along the way. Followed by the student then tackling questions on their own. My shop is full of lessons like this (however longer than this lesson). Hence a bought lesson will give you plenty of worked examples as board work with a worksheet to conclude, lasting the student beyond your lesson. The shop is https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/sjcooper

The set contains a worked set of examples in a PowerPoint. There is also a printable set of the examples which might be used in class where students copy the worked solutions as and when delivered by the teacher. The Powerpoint is then followed by a small workbook of seven questions which can easily by sent as an A5 booklet to most printers. The lesson should last up to 1 hour dependent on where you have the students copy out the examples in their entirety or print the prepopulated examples.

Resource with fractions, proportion and percentages. Resource includes worked examples followed by questions, also includes answers. The lesson also includes a worksheet which students could use in class or complete as a piece of homework. This resource should last a full hours lesson or more. This resource is also very useful for students that struggle answering questions involving both fractions and percentages or fractions and ratio in the same question.

Assembly on Remembrance Day

This is an assembly that I put together for my form to deliver to their year group in assembly. Each student was given a sentence to deliver and the slides were advanced at the appropriate speed. The picture of William and is family was taken in 1915 prior to him leaving to join the battle. William was killed in action in 1917.

Drawing Quadratic Curves Revision

(0)
This PowerPoint is a revision lesson were students revise the ability to work out y coordinates for a given quadratic curve and then draw the curve. The lesson is structured so that they follow two examples at the board before attempting the next two by themselves, before looking at a couple of more complicated questions. Then once again having a go at a couple. The revision lesson (as with most of my revision lessons) are designed to last at least one hour in length. I tend to get the students to copy the examples in their book.

Compound Errors

This lesson is a continuation form the lessons on Discrete and continuous errors (available from the shop for free) The lesson looks at errors further created when quantities are put together through either using the for rules of number or in additional formula work. As well as the PowerPoint lesson there is a worksheet and answers for the students to attempt either in class or as a piece of homework.
Dividing into a given Ratio

Dividing into a given Ratio

The series of worksheets and worksheet generator looks at a variety of ratio questions students could meet in the new GCSE examination. The first worksheets look at the more basic dividing into a given ratio. subsequent worksheets look at the more complicated ratio questions that appear on the papers and many students struggle to answer. The reason behind the generated question excel package is that you can generate an infinite number of worksheets. Hence students can have endless practice at this questions. Alternatively you can generate a complete set of different questions so that each member of the class has their own set to answer!

General GCSE Maths grade 1 to 3 revision

This revision lesson I put together based on material I found most year 11 foundation students were struggling with. The revision mainly focuses on the students ability to apply the four rules of number to some literacy based question. The second revision lesson I have added is on number machines as I found that students were fine with using the number machine one way but poor on reverse. Hence practice makes perfect!
Transformations of graphs Introduction

Transformations of graphs Introduction

These two lessons and worksheets are lessons which cover the translations of graphs and the knowledge of stretching a graph by a given scale factor. The lesson is aimed at the students working out the translation which takes place by initially drawing certain graphs and then linking them the original graph drawn. This is then followed by a series of examples. The second lesson is similar in that the students are encouraged to draw a series of graphs before linking them to the original as a stretch. The lesson then continues with a series of worked examples. Both lessons have a worksheet with solutions.

Here is a small group of revision lessons I have recently used for my year 11 students. These have been written with them in mind and cover the types of questions they were struggling with. Generally I tend to go through one or two at the board before they attempt the others. Revision lessons included are Probability tree diagrams Distance speed time Ingredient questions Flow diagrams and some general “wordy” questions that can be troubling for many students.
