Phase 3 phonics activity sheets including
find and colour the phoneme
practise writing the letter
add the sound buttons
fill in the missing letters
read the sentence
write a sentence
Sentences could be cut up laminated and used for sorting.
I also laminate the writing sentence part for children to use whiteboard pens with. (can be enlarged)
A selection of compound word cards with pictures. Some with compound word picture, some left for children to write without the final picture clue. Space for children to write the word.
I laminate these cards for the children to write on with whiteboard pens.
Phase 2 missing sound card strips - I laminate the missing sounds strips so the children can use white board pens or they can just be printed as sheets. The children love filling these in.
Captions using phase 2 sounds. I use the caption sheets with the sound prompts on the top so children don’t have to find sound mats but these could be cut off.
Here is a project I set for my year 1 children during remote learning. They really enjoyed it and created some lovely booklets, posters and fact files.
Instructions for introducing super sentences to children for sentence building, handwriting and letter formation practice.
I find this really successful helping emergent writers with letter formation, word building and finger spaces and more able children begin to write their own sentences.
I write the words on the line so they can copy them in the right place as it is not an independent writing exercise, it is more focused on the handwriting and letter formation so copy writing isn’t a problem.
A fun maths activity to practise number recognition, counting to 20, ordering numbers to 20 and writing numbers.
I introduced this in a live lesson with my Reception children and they really enjoyed doing it.
A powerpoint to help blending.
I have created slides with cvc, cvcc and ccvc words using phase 2 set 2 sounds (SATPINMD).
Each word has one slide with sound buttons and a picture and a second animated slide blending the sounds in the direction they are said (left to right).
I found these helpful when teaching my class to blend.
A powerpoint containing cvc cvcc and ccvc words using phase 2 set 1 sounds (SATPIN).
I have shown the word with sound buttons then blended it in the direction of reading (left to right) to show the letters blending together. I found it helpful for my class when beginning to blend.
A set of letter recognition peg cards (upper case to lower case) and initial sound picture peg cards.
Cut out and laminate cards then provide small pegs for children to select the correct letters / sounds.
To use the suffixes -ing or -ed where no change is needed in the spelling of the root word.
Add the suffix -ing in one column and -ed in the next.
Apply words created to sentences.
