Mike Allmond is non-executive chairman of ReMIT (Retail Motor Industry Training Ltd), which trains about 3,000 apprentices a year in the retail motor industry. He is also a director of the Association of Learning Providers.
Val Hewson has worked at the Department for Education and Skills Standards Unit since it was set up in July 2003. After focusing on adult and community learning and projects linked to modern foreign languages, she is now managing the 2005 STAR Awards.
Christine Lewis has worked at Unison, the largest trade union in the UK, since it was founded in 1993. After negotiating on behalf of members at post-1992 universities, she now represents staff in further education and sixth form colleges.
Dolly Naeem has been a teacher or manager in further and adult education in the London borough of Newham for more than 20 years. As well as being assistant chief executive of the charity and learning provider Newtec, she is a joint registered inspector for ALIOfsted.
Giles Pepler has been principal of Thomas Rotherham college in South Yorkshire for seven years - his third principalship in the further education sector. He has also taught in secondary schools and spent more than six years as head of an inner-city comprehensive in Sheffield.
Bob Powell is chief officer at Holex, the national network of adult learning providers, which he created in 1995. He has worked as support officer to LEAFEA, a network of local authority officers responsible for adult learning.
