THE conference, organised by the Scottish Centre for Information on Language Teaching and Research, heard from Margaret McGhie, the curriculum council’s assistant director, that new 5-14 language guidelines should be in place by next August.
They would attempt to show how teaching can move from “language to languages” in a joined-up curriculum linking to Standard grade and Higher.
Isobel McGregor, HMI’s modern languages specialist, urged teachers to take on board the lessons from last October’s Inspectorate report before waiting for the 5-14 and Standard grade proposals to be introduced.
