A headteacher who merged classrooms to compensate for teacher shortages has claimed that pupils can actually benefit from larger class sizes.
John Atkins, headteacher of Kemnal Technology College in Sidcup, Kent, knocked down a wall between classrooms to make a maths class of 55 pupils.
“We have seen an improvement in exams result and this strategy is beneficial to the pupils,” he said.
