“We have an assessment group looking at reporting to parents who is presently consulting with primary schools, teachers and parents and will report back this month.

“The proposed model under discussion will record attainment at levels A to E plus the progression to the next level, a 1 to 6 scale for effort, coupled with tick boxes for personal and social development and homework.

“There will be two comment boxes only, one for the overall summary comment and one for identifying the development needs or next steps for the child to progress.

“These reports can be done manually or on computer.

“We are trying to give parents information that is useful while striking a balance with time efficiency from the teachers’ point of view.

“Looking at reports was always part of our 5-14 action plan but we are aware that time allocation is an issue post-McCrone.”
