MINISTERS are expected to give their backing to the use of court orders to tame thuggish pupils, after the mere threat of them worked wonders on three pupils in a Bradford school. Joan Law, headteacher of Laisterdyke high school, resorted to the threat of anti-social behaviour orders after all other approaches had failed to control a trio of Year 10 pupils. Breach of an anti-social behaviour order - introduced under the 1998 Crime and Disorder Act - is a criminal offence and can lead to a spell in custody.
