Australia: school students should be given easy access to the “morning-after Pill” to stop unwanted pregnancies and abortions, say family planning groups.
In Victoria, one group has sent kits promoting the Pill to high schools, but this has outraged “pro-life” groups which said such publicity sent the wrong message to teenagers, and was just another form of abortion. Margaret Tighe, president of Right to Life Australia, said it would give teenagers an even more casual attitude towards sex.
A spokesman for the Roman Catholic church said the morning-after Pill would never be promoted in Catholic schools.
