The case of David McNab, the atheist who teaches at St Paul’s High in Glasgow and was found by a tribunal to have been discriminated against (TESS, last week), raises a significant theological question.
As one Catholic head of RE was heard to put it: “If you’re an atheist and don’t believe in God, it follows that you can’t believe in the concept of the Catholic school.
“So has David McNab been at school in real terms at all for all these years? Maybe he just thought he was, unless he had a road to Damascus moment. It is St Paul’s after all.”
