Hot on the heels of The TES’s Write Away children’s writing competition comes another opportunity for young writers aged between 12 and 16. The Booktrust Teenage Prize has launched a short (500 words) story competition to recruit young judges who can help choose the top teenage novel published in 2005-06. Three young readers will join a panel chaired by novelist Mal Peet (pictured) in September to read the shortlist (up to eight novels) by October half-term week, when they will help to choose the winner of the pound;2,500 prize (the prize money has increased by pound;1,000 since last year). The judges also include Emma Hoddinott, editor of blissmag.co.
uk. Stories on the topic “Living the Dream” must be submitted by July 31.
