CHICKENS are experts at teaching and learning, according to scientists from Bristol University. Animals are better at teaching each other than was previously thought, said Professor Christine Nicol, and the skills are not limited to primates. She found that hens learned faster from other hens than from cockerels, but only broody females made good teachers, able to keep order and respond flexibly to mistakes made by their chicks.
