High property prices in Buckinghamshire have prompted a High Wycombe school to offer pound;500 towards housing a newly-qualified teacher.
Eamon Kennedy, head of St Augustine’s Catholic primary, said: “We are in such a desperate situation in Bucks. We advertised for a teacher before Christmas and had no responses at all. The cost of living in this part of the world is prohibitive. We should qualify for a London-type allowance.”
Interest in Mr Kennedy’s offer has been strong. He said: “We advertised on Friday and by Monday had nine requests for information.”
The Government this week announced that 2,000 key workers, including teachers working in housing hot spots outside London will receive pound;10,000 equity loans under the Starter Homes Initiative.
