Local authorities are set to invest record amounts of cash in their school buildings, according to the latest statistics. Figures show that the budgeted capital expenditure on education by Wales’s 22 councils for 201011 was #163;259.6 million, an increase of 22 per cent - or #163;46 million - on last year. The increase is mainly due to capital funds from future years being brought forward to stimulate growth in the economy, as well as the start of many post-16 transformation projects. Recent years have seen modest capital expenditure increases of between 6 and 7 per cent.
