The University of Cambridge has announced that Bill Anderson will be the new chief executive of the Cambridge Assessment Group.

He will succeed Simon Lebus, who is stepping down after 15 years at the company.

Mr Anderson - who will start at Cambridge Assessment on 5 March - joins from the education company Pearson, where he has worked for 21 years. His last role was senior vice president (product), where he led the product and product technology teams.

Prior to that, he was Pearson’s first global president of English language teaching. He has an MA in history from the University of Edinburgh.

Anthony Odgers, chairman of the university board to which Cambridge Assessment answer, said: “We are delighted to welcome someone with such an impressive pedigree to lead the group.

“Cambridge Assessment is already a global leader but has significant opportunities for growth. Bill’s considerable experience, commitment and passion for education will help the group realise its ambitions.”

Mr Anderson said: “I am honoured to accept this leadership role at a world-leading assessment body and education services group. I am particularly excited at the prospect of working in partnership with Cambridge University Press and the broader university community to improve global educational outcomes and to help individuals everywhere realise their full potential.”
