The Confederation of British Industry has called for colleges and universities to face spending cuts if students fail to gain basic numeracy and literacy skills.
The penalties would apply to all courses of study from the lowest-level NVQs to PhDs under the proposals for a new qualifications framework unveiled today. Students and trainees would be required to reach targets in six key skills for work as well as their academic or vocational studies in order to qualify for a certificate. The proposals were submitted in response to the Government’s consultations on 16-19 qualifications.
