Ian Cameron, an Irvine evangelical minister, was last week trying to promote his credentials as a would-be member of North Ayrshire’s education committee.
In a rousing manifesto he told councillors of his philosophy to get alongside “the young folk, sit with them, listen to their problems of violence and vandalism related to drink, drugs and sexual misuse and find a way ahead by offering them snooker, pool and table tennis and other games”.
Alas, the reply from councillors was in the negative.
