NO one forgets a good teacher and lots of them will be on the box this Sunday with the broadcast of the teachers’ “Oscars”.
At the winners’ celebration dinner, David Puttnam, film producer and chairman of the General Teaching Council, took to task the NASUWT’s Nigel de Gruchy. Nigel had caused off-ence with his remarks about the suitability of award host Davina McCall. (Her claim to fame is that she presented this summer’s hit, Big Brother.) In retaliation, Nigel claimed that Lord Puttnam’s admission that he fancies Davina amounted to sexism.
Next year, Ted Wragg will be chairing the teacher awards. Look forward to a new category for the teacher who has most annoyed Chris Woodhead.
