What qualifications can I take in order to gain promotion to deputy headship?

Senior management and leadership posts in schools require many skills.

Being a good teacher is fundamental, as is knowledge of how complex organisations operate and people interact in the workplace. Have you visited the National College for School Leadership website? It is no longer just the body that trains heads, but now has a wider brief that includes middle managers. Ideally, undertake a formal qualification alongside a number of specific skills orientated short courses. How hard you will find it to become a deputy head will depend on the number of other teachers looking to progress into leadership posts. As elsewhere in education, the market rules.
