London Leadership Strategy, A School Improvement Network, Has Been Formally Dissolved

Troubled school improvement network London Leadership Strategy (LLS) has formally closed more than a year after formal investigations began into allegations of financial mismanagement relating to a £2 million government grant.

Tes revealed in February 2018 that LLS faced closure after a year of bitter infighting among staff and directors, prompted by claims involving its former managing director Anita Kerwin-Nye, who stepped down in November 2017.

Investigation: Closure fears for London Challenge spin-off plagued by infighting and mismanagement

Finance: Auditors found financial management at LLS in disarray

Opinion: ‘We need a culture shift to stop pupils with SEND being excluded unfairly’

LLS was a not-for-profit company largely funded by government grants, which arose out of the London Challenge school improvement scheme.

Whistleblower claims at LLS

It emerged in the winter of 2017-18 that there was mounting unrest on the LLS board, fuelled by fears of financial mismanagement, which resulted in several board directors leaving in protest last year.

The Department for Education intervened after a whistleblower made claims that money had been mismanaged.

Records at Companies House now show that LLS was dissolved on 2 July after it applied for voluntary strike-off in April.

Its final set of accounts, for the year to 31 August 2018, were lodged on 25 March and show assets of only £829.
