For those of us who have worked with and for examination boards which attract large entries of students, it is difficult to know what to make of Brian Martin’s assertion (TES, December 27) that the small Oxford and Cambridge Schools Examination Board (OCSEB) is “arguably the most highly respected of the exam boards, the board used by most of the leading state and independent schools and esteemed by university admission officers”. If what he says is true, it is the kind of hierarchy we could all do without.
