* Community groups are “acting locally on global issues” during the 20th One World Week, October 18-25, by organising hundreds of events on the theme “Shaping our Landscapes”. An OWW Action Kit is available for schools at pound;5, containing a colour picture pack, poster and lots of ideas and practical guidance. The week is supported by the British Churches and Church Development Agencies. For details, tel: 0118 939 4933.
* To draw attention to Britain’s disappearing wildflowers - only 3 per cent of our original wildflower meadows remain untouched - Wildlife Watch, the junior branch of The Wildlife Trusts, sponsored by Eastern Electricity and Natural Gas, is hosting action-packed wildflower days this summer in areas including Bristol, Suffolk, Kent, Northumberland and Ulster. It will focus on such threatened blooms as poppies, the yellow flag iris, sea lavender, heather and the wild geranium, bloody cranesbill. People working with children are invited to join the Trusts’ education service to obtain a Flower Power action pack. For details tel: 01522 5444000 or your local WT.
