Our children have been swimming lengths of the pool, so I decided to send off for some certificates from the Amateur Swimming Association.
The shiny brochure duly arrived. Imagine my surprise when I opened it and discovered that the certificates had Tony the Tiger and Kellogg’s Frosties (sugar content 38 per cent) plastered all over them.
Why are our sporting organisations signing these Faustian deals? ASA hang your head in shame. How can we encourage healthy eating and then give credibility to such sugar-laden, obesity-inducing food?
We also had a leaflet aimed at getting parents to volunteer to help in after school sports - the sponsors? Nutella - 57 per cent carbohydrates, 31 per cent fat. I kid you not.
Please could teachers join me and ring the ASA and ask them to find a better sponsor. I’m making my own certificates until they do.
