Every year we used to take the kids on an exchange to Montpellier, says the retired modern languages teacher at Dundee High.
One night, the other teacher and I were having a rare old time eating and drinking with the proprietor of the hotel the kids had been dispatched to their various French families when we got a phone call to say that the party they were in, at some village hall with their French partners, had been gatecrashed and someone had a gun.
Well, we all leapt into action and jumped in the proprietor’s 4x4, but by the time we got there things had calmed down I think it was just an air gun.
