Labour dispensed with its leader’s triple “e” mantra at its Scottish conference last weekend and substituted “education, enterprise and lifelong learning” instead.
So a debate expected to be about education turned into one on the economy, the economy, the conomy. This did not best please some education observers who had given up a perfectly good Sunday morning - at a new Labour cost of pound;50, if you please.
Worse still, their conference credentials reduced them to the ranks of “commercial visitor”.
