Primaries and secondaries in West Dunbartonshire are performing well, attainment is on the up and its senior education officials are contributing to the progress, the inspectors say.
In its follow-up report, HMIE praises the further advances since it commended education in the Labour-run authority two years ago. The authority has now addressed one of the inspectors’ previous criticisms, that the former SNP-Independent administration failed to back the public private partnership (PPP) scheme.
A revised school building programme is under way, although the inspectors call for further upgrading of primary buildings.
The inspectors said the authority has continued to improve effectiveness despite major changes in senior management.
Seven primaries had shown “very good attainment” and two secondaries “positive signs of improvement across a range of measures” against a background of “significant levels of deprivation and disadvantage”.
