MICHAEL Austin overdid it with his cynicism last week (TES, December 3). The Government’s amount of further education resources for 2000 to 2002 was unmitigated good news.
David Blunkett did not make it to the Association of Colleges’ conference because was obliged to respond to an Opposition education debate that day. Similar, more muted democratic demands meant that I missed the delights of the AOC for a vote in the “other place”.
If Michael wishes to hone his cynicism he might recall the seventh law of politics that no cabinet minister should leave good news announcements to a junior except in dire extremis.
