GOVERNORS are being denied vital information about school performance, a new survey reveals.
Despite the fact that governors have a legal duty to raise standards, two in five councils do not pass monitoring reports written by their advisers to chairs of governing bodies, often because of pressure from headteachers.
Ten, the council-funded research organisation, found that fewer than one in six authorities circulates the reports to all school governors.
The wide-ranging report, based on returns from 60 per cent of English councils, also found that nearly half of new governors are not trained.
