Second-year secondary pupils will soon be able to compare patterns of diet and health at home and abroad. The newly launched Halo project (Home Abroad Liaison Opportunity) in Glasgow will set up electronic contacts with Third World countries to investigate lifestyles and health promotion.
Based in home economics departments, the project will encourage pupils to choose healthy eatingpatterns and encourage mini-enterprises. Frances Gallagher, of Glasgow’s education support service, who manages the project, says that pupil ownership is the key to motivation. Jean McMillan, of St Andrew’s Academy, Paisley, said: “We have the support of a range business personnel.”
