We hate to depress you at this early stage of your teaching career, but recent survey findings may make you question your career choice. According to research carried outata school in Wrexham, North Wales, teachers are Increasingly turning to antidepressants and alcohol to cope with risIng stress levels.

In fact, this is such a serious issue that the Health and Safety Executive has launched a national inquiry into stress levels among teachers. Later this year it plans to produce guidelines For heads, helping them to diagnose stressedout staff.

But how wlli heads treat these unfortunate employees? A Government supply of wine, whisky and Prozacto be handed out after staff meetIngs seems unlikely.
