Improvement doesn’t add up

For the director of an assessment company, George Bethell shows a disturbing lack of understanding of basic statistics (Letters, 14 October). Improving the bottom 10 per cent of teachers will, by definition, improve the average, whereas dragging down the best teachers will reduce it.
