Renfrewshire Council’s education service has been lauded for its “outstanding” approach to inclusion, particularly for children and young people with additional support needs. The first of the new series of HM Inspectorate of Education reports into education services has rated Renfrewshire as “excellent” in two areas (leadership and direction, and vision, values and aims) and “very good” in another eight.
John Rooney, the council’s director of education and leisure services, said: “It’s encouraging that the report has noted the long-term work which the council is doing to increase opportunities for access to learning and personal and social development so that everyone can make the most of their abilities and maximise their opportunities in education, employment and later life.”
Meanwhile, a follow-through report on Fife Council’s education services from the previous round of inspections found there had been siginificant progress in resource and financial management. HMIE will continue to liaise with the authority to monitor the impact of its strategy to raise attainment.
