THE Education Minister told heads that 16 councils will share in the Government’s pound;15 million project to find “innovative” solutions to improving the performance of schools in the most deprived parts of Scotland over the next three years.
The authorities will have to win Scottish Office approval for “education action plans” in areas based on 35 secondary schools, an average of pound;142,857 a year per cluster.
The 16 are Glasgow (pound;800,000), Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh and West Dunbartonshire (pound;500,000 each), North Lanarkshire (pound;300,000), Aberdeenshire, East Lothian, Fife, Inverclyde, Perth and Kinross and West Lothian (pound;200,000 each), East Ayrshire, Falkirk, Renfrewshire and South Ayrshire (pound;100,000 each).
