You mightthink Big Brother is watching you in the classroom, but spare a thought for female teachers in utter Pradesh, India. They have been warned that ‘strict action’ will be taken against them if they’re found with knitting yarns and needles. ‘The Times of India’ tells us that government officials are concerned that women teachers are ‘knitting, enjoying the sunshine and exchanging notes on intricate design and colour combinations, instead of teaching. Butthe knitters have hit back, claiming that all male teachers do all day is amble around listening to the cricket and chewing tobacco.
