The laid-back Latitude Festival in Southwold, Suffolk, on July 14-16 might help get you through the last few days of term. Unlike most literary festivals, you don’t pay for individual events but for the day (pound;40) or the weekend (pound;95 for Friday-Sunday) including camping (definitely not like most literary festivals). Headliners include Alexander Masters, Toby Litt and Tibor Fischer and there’s a comedy programme which makes fun of Mills and Boon novels, so stay away if your portfolio career includes writing them. The publicity promises: “All day and all night random and surreal situations will present themselves to you, enticing you to join in activities you never thought even existed.” Not much of a break from school after all, then. Bookings on 0870 060 3775.
