A plan to create laptops costing less than $100 (pound;55) for schools in developing countries risks being scuppered if investment is not agreed.
Nicholas Negroponte, founder of the One Laptop per Child campaign and professor emiritus at the Massachussets Institute of Technology, outlined his concerns in a speech at last week’s National Educational Computer Conference in San Diego, California. He said he had hoped some developing countries would agree deals by this autumn, but none had yet committed to the $100 million letter of credit required. For more information, see: http:laptop.org
