Waterloo Road, the BBC’s Sunday night soap about the comprehensive from hell, is picking up a faithful following of Scottish staff, despite being set in the south of England. In the first episode, a teacher was banjoed by an irate father, a pupil-on-pupil assault on a school bus took place, the school hall was vandalised to extinction and sundry class riots took place.
The head of one west of Scotland comprehensive was heard to comment: “I just wish my school was as quiet as Waterloo Road. Mind you, it is fiction.”
