The search has begun for the League of Extraordinary Booklovers, a group of people from all walks of life who love books and reading. They must be willing to volunteer to share their passion and expert knowledge with readers across the nation during the first Book Week Scotland (26 November-2 December).

The league will answer questions about books and make personalised reading recommendations to members of the public throughout the book week. People can submit their questions to the group by email or ask a question on Twitter, and will receive an answer within 24 hours.

Anyone can apply to become a member of the league; the only qualifications are knowledge of books and the enthusiasm to promote the power of reading. Finalists will also need to be available at various times during Book Week Scotland.

Nominations opened last month to booklovers of all ages and occupations. Members of the public can nominate themselves or someone they think would be a great candidate by sending an email, stating in 300 words or fewer why they should be chosen to join the league.

Scottish Book Trust will choose members of the league from applications submitted by 14 September. The identity of the League of Extraordinary Booklovers will be revealed when the full Book Week Scotland programme is launched in the autumn.

Initiated by the Scottish government, Book Week Scotland will be a national week-long celebration of reading, delivered on behalf of Creative Scotland by the Scottish Book Trust. The trust will work with authors, workplaces, libraries and schools across the nation to deliver a packed programme of free projects and events, bringing Scots of all ages and from all walks of life together to celebrate books and reading.
