The poster depicting Sir Henry Unton’s life (TES, February 6) said that in 1591 Sir Henry married Dorothy Wroughton. Then throughout the poster you refer to her as Lady Dorothy.
If Sir Henry’s wife was Dorothy Wroughton before their marriage, then afterwards she would be Lady Unton. By referring to her as Lady Dorothy, you elevate her to the rank of the daughter of an earl or above.
If we delve into our history we might as well get it right for the sake of our children. I hope that you will forgive me for raising this matter.
