Four young men and women share their experiences in Working with Radioactivity, a 17-minute video from British Nuclear Fuels. We learn about the Sellafield apprenticeship scheme and we see them carrying out tests in the analytical services department. Aimed at GCSE students, the video assumes some prior knowledge about radiation. It indicates the importance of health and safety regulations in an industrial lab and the penetrative effects of alpha, beta and gamma radiation, and amicably challenges media stereotypes of scientists as “super-intelligent nerds”.
The video costs pound;3.50 from BNFL Education, Unit 1A, Wirral Business Park, Arrowe Brook Road, Upton, Wirral CH49 1QZ.
