An investigation into alleged fraud at the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) has been launched by police.

According to the BBC, the investigation relates to the SQA’s office in Glasgow and is understood to involve a six-figure sum of money. The SQA reportedly said a “suspected case of financial irregularity” had been referred to the police, but it would be “inappropriate to comment further”.

Police Scotland was first made aware of the fraud claims in June last year.

The SQA’s annual report for 2018-19 says that “during 2018-19, one instance of suspected financial irregularity was identified and investigated in line with SQA’s anti-fraud policy and fraud response plan”.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said it had “received reports of possible fraudulent activities linked to a business in Glasgow”. She added: “The circumstances are currently being investigated and no further comment will be made until this is complete.”
