Children from the poorest homes are five times more likely to be injured or killed on the roads, a report reveals.
Produced by Barnado’s, the children’s charity and environmental group Transport 2000, the report calls for speed cameras in deprived areas and more 20mph speed limits to cut the 268 deaths or serious injuries to children on the roads each year.
Many children believe speeding, selfish drivers and busy roads prevent them from playing in their neighbourhoods, the report says.
