Q: I’m looking for work from January next year. I am also pregnant (due in the summer), but do I have to disclose this to interviewers? Is it bad practice to take a job and then say “Er, actually I’m expecting”? Is it best to be honest or do I stand no chance of getting a job?
A: I think you need to ask yourself how you want to start your career and motherhood. You don’t legally have to tell your employer that you’re pregnant until 15 weeks before the expected week of confinement, but I should be honest and upfront. However, think about when to raise it.
Perhaps wait until you get asked at interview, ‘If you were offered this job would you take it?’
