As somebody training to become a teacher after 14 years in professional support services in the legal field, I have been following with interest the recent discussion about shadow education secretary Tristram Hunt’s proposal to periodically appraise and relicense teachers.
In a BBC interview on the subject, Mr Hunt described his proposed licensing scheme for teachers as being “just like lawyers and doctors”. However, if Mr Hunt does propose to introduce direct parallels with these professions, will he be doubling the average salary of teachers to match?
