Of the 24 categories “marked” at Leith Walk primary, 19 are described as very good, including the school’s ethos and communication with parents, even though it has no board. The other five are ranked as good.
Mr Jobson, who spent 10 years as director in Manchester before moving to Edinburgh, said: “Everyone at the school should be very proud of the report, which not only recognises the strong leadership of headteacher Beverley McLaughlin, but also her highly committed teaching and support staff.”
Leith Walk has a roll of 170, with 45 children in the nursery class. It serves a mixed community, with more than a quarter of pupils from ethnic minorities.
Mrs McLaughlin, who has been head for 10 years, said: “It takes longer to turn a school round than many people think.”
She paid tribute to staff and parents “who have been wonderfully supportive of our multicultural ideals and profound commitment to equality and respect for all”.
