Principals and former principals dominated further education’s presence in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.
Newcastle College’s Jackie Fisher topped the list, having been appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire.
Ms Fisher, chief executive of the Newcastle College Group, was joined by nine other further education principals and former principals in this year’s birthday honours, announced last Saturday.
“To be given such recognition is a great honour and one for which I am extremely grateful,” said Ms Fisher.
“It is a tribute to the many people in our FE colleges in Newcastle and Skelmersdale and our national training and employability provider, Intraining, who work very hard to give our learners and customers valuable qualifications and employment.”
Others in the list included Robin Landman, chief executive of the Network for Black Professionals, who is appointed an OBE, and Margaret Mineham, curriculum manager at Cleveland College of Art and Design, who is appointed an MBE.
Cleveland principal Martin Raby said: “Margaret’s MBE is well deserved and was supported by education professionals in Middlesbrough and Hartlepool. Within the college she has been central in successfully driving up quality standards.”
