Project-based secondary among new free school bids
A trust that runs two project-based learning schools in Doncaster is among those bidding to open a new free school in the next wave of the programme.
The Department for Education has published the names of 89 proposed free school bids today under “wave 14”.
Among those listed is XP Gateshead, which is a bid from the trust that runs XP School and XP East in Doncaster.
The XP Schools Trust’s education is built around project-based learning and was inspired by High Tech High in San Diego.
Free schools: Debate on need for innovative new schools
Dixons: ’We need more great school leaders in the North’
Education in the North: Free schools planned to bridge so-called North-South divide
A website promoting the new XP Gateshead school says it will be “an exciting and innovative new small secondary school for 11- to 16-year-olds”.
The new free school applications also include a bid from Bradford-based academy chain Dixons to open a new school in East Manchester.
