A SECOND senior figure from the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority is to leave for the private sector. Geoffrey Lucas, currently the QCA’s director of special projects, will become secretary of the leading public schools’ Headmasters’ and Headmistresses’ Conference next September, as his present boss, chief executive Nick Tate, becomes headmaster of Winchester College.
A former Spanish and English teacher and college of education lecturer, Mr Lucas, 48, is the first conference secretary not to have been previously head of one of its schools. He succeeds Vivian Anthony, 61, formerly head of Colfe’s school, London, who has been secretary for 10 years and will next year become its training officer.
