Children who learn to read at seven have caught up with peers who began at five by the time they leave primary school, according to new research from the University of Otago in New Zealand. By comparing similar children in Steiner schools, where reading is taught at seven, with those who learnt to read at age five in state schools, Dr Sebastian Suggate found no differences between the groups.
